The Five (5) Heuristics of Learners' Domain Program refers to the five (5) programs provided by APCAS to ensure a balanced and holistic development of the students. This involves both academic and non-academic programs of the College. Heuristics, a method of teaching that allows the students to learn by discovering things independently and through their own experiences, is adopted and implemented through exposing the students to varied activities that permit them to independently gain knowledge, skills, and attitude with the scaffold provided by the institution.
Through the five heuristics, learners are expected to be more effective decision-makers and problem-solvers in responding to their own needs and the society.
As part of college commitment for the holistic development of its students, the student mentoring program, as part of the Five (5) Heuristics of Learners' Domain, through which the interdisciplinary offering of knowledge, skills and values, is on a one-on-one basis. A mentor is assigned to the students as soon as the students are accepted in the College. Students may have different mentors every semester.
The student mentoring program provides the students the opportunity to adjust easily when they enter the College as freshmen. They may avail of student advising and assistance in different areas and at different situations of their college life inside APCAS. This allows the students' development toward holistic personal formation as a student. Meetings between mentors and students which are conducted through confidential conversations occur once a month or if there is a need, may be on a weekly basis.
This program is being implemented by the Guidance Center in coordination with the Office of the Academic Affairs.
This program aims to extend assistance to the students who have concerns with their academic performance on particular subject/s. Instructors, during their available time, may conduct CHAT to help students understand the subject.
Irregular Students and Transferees are carefully advised on a one-on-one basis by college deans and program heads on the course/subjects they may take under their programs. The main objective is to allow the students choose their own pace of study guided by the prescribed residency of the program as stated in this handbook. This program also considers the flexibility of schedule for students who are already working.
There are two (2) scheduled euthenics program for one (1) school year. During the first semester, a Euthenics convention/seminar covering topics relevant to the social and personal development of the students, is attended by all college students. A Career Summit and Job Fair are conducted as the Euthenics activity during second semester, where students are exposed to different career opportunities.
For graduating student, a Career Mapping Seminar is conducted during the last semester prior to graduation ceremony, preparing them to be better equipped and industry-ready after graduation.
In order to develop students who can respond to the needs of the community and the environment, students are exposed to various activities requiring their active participation and sincere involvement such as tree planting, outreach activities and other community programs involving not only students but all the school stakeholders. These activities are carefully coordinated to different government agencies for the safety of all stakeholders: students, employees and parents.
